Opening Wide: Sherlock Holmes, It’s Complicated, Alvin 2

Here’s what’s opening in theaters nationwide. We have expansions from Up In The Air and Nine, along with the much anticipated Sherlock Holmes, the less anticipated Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, and the ‘bit of a slut’ Mery Streep comedy It’s Complicated. In the arthouses, you can see Heath Ledger’s final performance in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.

Robert Downey Jr. stars as the titular sleuth in Guy Ritchie’s reinvention of the classic characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Jude Law co-stars as a pistol-packing rough-and-tumble version of Dr. Watson, while Rachel McAdams flits about as femme fatale Irene Adler.

Meryl Streep plays a woman torn between her philandering ex-husband Alec Baldwin, who divorced her and got married to Lake Bell only to start thinking it was a mistake, or Steve Martin, a kindly nerdy architect.
