Subway To Pay ‘Biggest Loser’ Contestant Big Bucks For Pounds Lost

Shay Sorrells, the heaviest contestant in the history of ‘Biggest Loser‘ has signed on with Subway to be their new spokesperson.

The sandwich food chain will offer Sorrells $1,000 for every pound she loses between now and the Season 9 finale of the series (in May 2010.)

“My time on The Biggest Loser showed me that I have the capability to do whatever I set my mind to,” said the competitor. “For anyone who watched me week in and week out, I promise you that I will continue to do my best, because my struggle with weight is a continuing battle. I thank SUBWAY® for providing me with another platform and incredible opportunity for showing America that my challenge is far from over.”

She joins another famous Subway spokesperson, Jared Fogle, who lost 245 pounds since 1998.

Sorrels lost 161 pounds on the series and was its heaviest star so far, one thing that ‘Biggest Loser’ trainer Jillian Michaels has voiced concern about.

“The contestants keep getting bigger and bigger,” Michaels tells Ladies’ Home Journal for their February issue. “As the trainers we have no say over the challenges. We worry about them too.”

“We all worry,” added Todd A. Nelso, but this “and this allows us to fine-tune the process and reach out to a heavier population.”
