Looks like Buck, Alice, T, and Gimme are going to have to make room for one more.
At the Television Critics Press Tour Saturday, ‘United States of Tara‘ creator and executive producer Diablo Cody confirmed what promos for the upcoming second season of the Showtime series have alluded to – that Tara (Toni Collette) is getting a new alternate personality.
“Her name is Shoshanna,” Cody confessed of the fresh “alter.”
Cody described Shoshanna’s role as a “mentor of sorts,” saying her materialization results from Tara’s realization that “the family was in need of help.”
The idea of “co-consciousness” – wherein a person suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder can communicate with one of their alters – will also be explored in season 2.
“We wanted to establish Shoshanna as the main co-conscious alter for Tara,” Cody admit.
The sophomore season of ‘Tara’ kicks off on Showtime March 22. Just don’t expect it to pick up where last season left off. Cody’s self-proclaimed “traum-com” (short for trauma-comedy) will “subtly” jump ahead in time “But it’s not going to be like Desperate Housewives,” Cody quipped. “Where suddenly everybody is in a fat suit.”
Look for newbie Shoshanna to rear her head in episode four.
