The promos for the upcoming, New York City-based season of Fox’s ‘24‘ (premiering January 17th) suggest that, should Jack Bauer make it through one more very bad day, it’s retirement time for the free world’s frequent savior.
The show’s iconic digital clock, however, could keep on ticking – assuming, of course, that Jack comes out of Day 8 alive.
Executive producer Howard Gordon says that forecasting ’24’s future is always “a year-to-year, day-to-day, minute-to-minute” proposition, and as such, there is no official word on whether or not the show will debut a new day in 2011.
As each season unspools, “We do ask ourselves, ‘What if?'” he adds, “so [another cycle] certainly is a possibility.”
Series star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland concurs, saying that never in the show’s run has the next season been “guaranteed or ensured.” His participation, however, almost assuredly is.
“This is one of the greatest gifts of my life, the ability to do ’24,'” he says, “so I’m absolutely open to it.”
