What do you get when you reimagine the TV version of the U.S. adaptation of a foreign film? The CW aims to find out, by picking up a pilot update of ‘La Femme Nikita.’
Originally brought to the big screen in 1990 by the French, ‘La Femme Nikita‘ – in which a street tough is recruited by a super-secret government organization – was adapted for American audiences three years later as ‘Point of No Return,’ starring Bridget Fonda.
In 1997, USA Network served up a TV take on the action-thriller, with Peta Wilson playing the unlikely assassin. That series ran for five seasons.

The new project – simply titled ‘Nikita’ – is being executive-produced by McG (‘Charlie’s Angels,’ ‘Human Target’), Peter Johnson and Craig Silverstein (who will pen the pilot). The set-up: Nikita has gone rogue, and a new badass is being trained to replace her. It’s like the ‘Bionic Woman‘ remake meets ‘Alias,’ though hopefully with a better shelf-life than that new-model Jamie Summers.
This ‘Nikita’ pilot joins a development season already rife with remakes and reboots such as ‘The Rockford Files,’ ‘Hawaii Five-O’ and ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ to name just a few.
This is where we pause to dream-cast TV’s new Nikita. Keeping things within the young adult-friendly CW family, may I suggest sometime ‘Smallville‘ guest star Serinda Swan (aka the enchanting Zatanna)? Or, in a scenario where ‘Melrose Place‘ sadly shutters its doors, brooding brunette Stephanie Jacobsen?
In other CW pilot news, the netlet picked up a small-town horse farm-set family drama from ‘Gilmore Girls‘ creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Dan. P.S. If you miss the ‘Girls,’ get your banter on with these full episodes.
