In the original 1968-’80 TV series, Jack Lord portrayed the head of the Hawaii State Police.
O’Loughlin had been eyed to star in the ‘Five-O’ pilot almost since the day it got picked up by CBS. If ordered to series, it’d mark the Aussie actor’s third gig with the network, following ‘Moonlight’ and this season’s short-lived ‘Three Rivers.’
“We love [Alex] and want him to stay around for a long time,” CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler told Fancast last month, not long after ‘Three Rivers’ was dropped from the schedule.
On ‘Five-O,’ O’Loughlin joins ‘Lost’ star Daniel Dae Kim, who earlier this week was cast as Chin Ho Kelly (played on the original series by Kam Fong).
The estimable creative team behind the new ‘Five-O’ is ‘Fringe’ cocreators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and ‘CSI: NY’ show runner Peter Lenkov.
