Opening Wide: Valentine’s Day, Wolfman, Percy Jackson

Theaters nationwide will be offering a trio of new movies to check out this holiday weekend. First off, of course, there’s the ensemble rom-com Valentine’s Day, which stars just about everybody you could think of. Then there’s the reinvention of the classic horror movie monster The Wolfman, which is right alongside the launching of a new young-adult-literature fantasy adventure franchise entitled Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Take a closer look at all three of them below.

Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall gathered every celebrity he could get his hands on to tell a bunch of little love stories to celebrate the sappiest of holidays. The Wolfman

The horror movie legend of the werewolf is reborn. Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a man returning home to his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins) to investigate the mysterious death of his brother, only to slowly become drawn to his widow (Emily Blunt). When more gruesome murders begin to occur, it soon becomes an unavoidable truth that lycanthropy is afoot, and once Lawrence finds himself bitten, his life becomes subject to the curse of the full moon.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman, who also has a shot at becoming the new Spider-Man) is a high school student who suddenly finds himself caught up in the world of Greek gods long thought relegated to mythology. But they’re real enough when they suspect him of stealing the lightning bolt of Zeus (Sean Bean), and when his mother (Catherine Keener) suddenly disappears, Percy will have to venture into the thick of the battle between angry deities to save her. Also starring Uma Thurman as Medusa, Steve Coogan as Hades, Pierce Brosnan as Chiron and Rosario Dawson as Persephone.
