‘Family Guy’ Knocks Sarah Palin’s Mentally Disabled Son

Sarah Palin has been a hot topic for comedians and left-wingers since her controversial bid for the vice presidency, but the latest jab at the former governor of Alaska, courtesy of Fox’s ‘Family Guy,’ might have gone too far.

Sunday’s episode of the animated series included the character Chris Griffin going on a date with a girl who has Down Syndrome (she also wore Palin-esque glasses). Such a gag is typical fare for the Seth MacFarlane comedy, which has become known for crossing the line. But the real kicker came when the character says, “My dad’s an accountant, and my mom’s the former governor of Alaska.”

The subject of Down Syndrome is touchy for Palin as her son Trig was born with the chromosomal disorder — she has recently gone on the attack toward White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, as well as fellow Republican Rush Limbaugh, for their use of the word ‘retard.’

What’s most interesting about the ‘Family Guy’ bit is that the show airs on Fox, a network Palin recently joined as a Fox News ‘contributor.’

No word yet on her response to this animated goof.

‘Family Guy’ isn’t a program known to shy away from controversy — there’s a whole Wikipedia page created just for criticism of the show — as it has taken on such topics as abortion and religion over the past few years.
