Prepare to jab a fork in the general direction of ABC’s Tuesday comedy block, because both Jay Harrington and Donald Faison have lined up new gigs.

Harrington has scored the lead in ‘Nathan vs. Nurture,’ NBC’s comedy pilot about an overachieving heart surgeon who meets his biological father and slacker sibs decades after his adoption, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Technically, ‘Nathan’ is in “second position” to Harrington’s ‘Better Off Ted,’ should the struggling ABC comedy get picked up for a third season. But as I noted in the report on Andrea Anders’ pilot casting, second position jobs usually wind up finishing first.

Similarly, ‘Scrubs‘ vet Faison has joined the cast of CBS’ ‘The Odds,’ a cop comedy set in Las Vegas. He will play a lead homicide detective.

In other pilot casting news:

• French-Canadian Caroline Dhavernas is scrubbing in for ABC’s ‘Off the Map,’ a new medical sudser being exec-produced by ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ boss Shonda Rhimes. Dhavernas, Martin Henderson and Enrique Murciano (‘Without a Trace’) play a trio of docs who set up shop at a tropical island clinic.

• Poppy Montgomery (‘Without a Trace’) is a San Francisco police captain in the ABC drama ‘True Blue.’

• Eugene Levy (‘American Pie’) is the father of the newlywed groom in ‘Hitched,’ a CBS comedy from Josh Schwartz (‘Chuck’).

• Autumn Reeser (‘The O.C.’) has joined ABC’s ‘No Ordinary Family,’ playing the yet-to-be-cast mom’s lab assistant. Michael Chiklis (‘The Shield’) is playing the superpowered clan’s patriarch.
