Ian McShane To Be New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Bad Guy?

Another sequel to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ franchise is about to set sail, with producers reportedly nailing down another key role: the villain.

In a %@#*-ing dead-on brilliant casting move, ‘Deadwood‘ star Ian McShane is in talks to play Blackbeard, the nemesis for Johnny Depp’s beloved Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth installment, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.’

And get ready for plenty of ‘pirate booty’ puns with earlier chatter that Penelope Cruz is close to signing as the female lead, with her ‘Nine‘ director Rob Marshall (‘Chicago’) at the helm.

McShane most recently starred in the short-lived but well-respected drama ‘Kings‘ [watch full episodes here], as well as in Jason Statham’sDeath Race.’

He’d make a fantastic mustachioed pirate bad guy to compete with Captain Jack in the search for the Fountain of Youth.

Do you think the same? Will you miss Keira Knightley and Orlando What’s-His-Name? Or are you sick of pirates and would rather see them make Ninjas of the Caribbean?
