Michael C. Hall was greeted warmly by ‘Dexter‘ fans at the annual PaleyFest in Los Angeles Thursday night with the crowd clearly appreciative of his presence at the event as he nears the end of his treatments for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“I’m great on the health front,” Hall said during a panel discussion following the screening of the show’s Thanksgiving episode. “I had the second to the last treatment [Wednesday] night and the last one is on March 17.”

Hall has had a couple or real career highs during his illness: Nominated for three Golden Globes and three Screen Actors Guild Awards for the role before and never winning, he finally took home both awards on his fourth try this year.

“I was two-thirds through then the awards show double goose happened,” Hall said of the wins. “It was a thrill. … I’m glad [the cast] was there.”

The actor’s cancer, said to be in remission, might not have ever been made public if not for the awards shows. In anticipation of the Globes in January, where he wore a knit cap to cover hair loss from cancer treatments, he released a statement about it.

Before the start of the panel, cast members reflected on the actor’s professionalism and told Fancast that his condition had no impact on the show’s shooting schedule.

“We were all surprised and that is a testament to him, that’s his work ethic,” said Lauren Velez who plays Lt. Maria LaGuerta. “He always showed up. And he’s okay, thank God.”

Said Julie Benz whose character of Rita was killed off in the season finale. “His diagnosis came at the very end of filming so nobody really knew, I was very excited to hear that he’s doing very well – actually fantastic. It just goes to show you what early detection can mean. Go to your doctor if you don’t feel good – go right away.”

The Showtime series will begin production of its fifth seaon in June but the show’s producers were extremely tight-lipped about the storyline.

Hall said Dexter will have uncharted territory as a widower now that Rita is dead: “Grief is a thing he’s never had projected on him before … I think, for the time being, dark passenger is back.”
