Lacey Brown isn’t blue even though the ‘Idol’ hopeful sent packing in the first elimination round of ‘American Idol.’ Her syrupy, sweet rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “Ruby Tuesday” failed to garner enough viewer votes to advance her in the competition and her delivery of Brandi Carlile’s “Story” fell flat with the judges on Wednesday night.

In a conference call Thursday, the spiky-haired, 24-year-old Amarillo native was in high spirits–but admitted that the conflicting advice from the judges threw her off her game.

“The criticism this year has been confusing, and therefore I would change week to week, which would leave the audience questioning who I am,” says Brown. “They kept asking for energy in my songs, and I kept trying to give it. Then Simon Cowell said ‘I was over-thinking’ my performances.”

“I’m excited about the future,” Brown said. “I’m open to anything and everything right now.”
