After reports surfaced Friday that a major theater production company was working on a ‘Glee‘ musical for Broadway, the show’s rabid fans were understandably titillated. But now Fox is dousing the idea and slamming the company, Music Theater International, for their claims.
“We are very careful and deliberate when contemplating brand extensions of our franchises and are mystified why Music Theater Intl. would claim there have been any such discussions about a live theatrical version of ‘Glee,'” Fox TV spokesman Chris Alexander said in a statement.
MTI is known for handling stage adaptations for high profile shows such as ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Rent,’ so their claims last week were seen as legitimate when reported on by Variety. The article appears to have been removed from Variety’s Web site.
This sad news aside, ‘Glee’ fans can still look forward to a traveling live show featuring members of the cast.
‘Glee Live! In Concert!’ kicks off with a show in Phoenix, Arizona, on May 18, and will then move on for two-night engagements in Los Angeles (May 20 & 21), Chicago (May 25 & 26) and New York, with shows planned for the legendary Radio City Music Hall on May 28 & 29.
Cory Monteith, who plays Finn on the Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy, says of the tour, “If you had told me a year ago that I’d be performing classic rock songs in concert theaters around the country, I would never have believed you. We are psyched!”
