Disregard talk that Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are heading for splitville. Like ‘em or not, they appear to epitomize the title of their hit reality show, ‘Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.’
Is it calculated? Well, the so-called leaked footage that gave rise to divorce rumors might have been a little too perfectly timed to the fifth and latest season of their series. As for turning an Easter-themed launch party for the show’s April 5 season premiere into an opportunity to squash rumors that all is not well in their household, hey, this is Hollywood, right?
“Everything that happens to us is organic,” Spelling told reporters Sunday afternoon at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif. “It’s a real relationship and no relationship is perfect. A relationship is something you have to work at and we work at ours on a daily basis.
“And, I think it’s nice that the viewers get to see that we aren’t perfect. We have our ups and downs. It was important to us when it did happen because the cameras that we kind of let it show for the audience, and we embraced that side of the situation.”
And those tabloid headlines that screamed divorce?
“We didn’t respond,” Spelling said. “The truth is we’re a family and we’re committed to our relationship and we’re committed to our family.”
Those family dynamics, the good and the bad and even the messy hair day will be at the center of the new season, said Spelling, who promised (or promoted) viewers will get a glimp deep to the “intimate details of our relationship…with all its ebbs and flows…You get to see a lot of that.”
The leaked footage that spawned the break up rumors showed Spelling telling her husband that she was losing sight of the man with whom she fell in love.
“It’s like you got more and more unhappy and angry,” she said. “I just want the old Dean back. I really do. I miss you so much.”
On Sunday, the couple seemed nothing but happy on the yellow carpet for the event with their two children, Stella, 1 1/2, and Liam, 3, in tow.
“The kids steal the show this year,” McDermott told reporters. “They are incredibly vocal and very cute.”
Judging by the playfulness of the toddlers on the carpet, any tension in the marriage doesn’t seem to be affecting them at all. At one point Stella put Liam in what looked like a wrestling hold on the ground, to which Spelling joked, “Look, a Lindsay Lohan incident!”
On whether Spelling’s mother, Candy Spelling, with whom she’d recently reconciled with, will be on the show this season, the former ’90210′ star simply said, “You’ll have to tune in to see.” (Smart money says count on it.) The actress did say she will celebrate Easter with her mother the Friday before the holiday.
And coming up, the New York Times bestselling author has a new book, ‘Uncharted TerriTORI,’ out in June, which will focus on her marriage and juggling a husband, career, and kids; and a children’s book, ‘Presenting Talluah,’ out in September.
