Premiering today on Digital Versatile Disc are a trio of movies from late in 2009. One is the Academy Award nominated An Education, and the other two are Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel and Sherlock Holmes, who were titanic box office competitors on Christmas Day, both contributing to the biggest box office weekend of all time – although Avatar had a little something to do with that as well.
Peter Sarsgaard is a suave and urbane older man who tries to woo a smart young suburban London girl (Academy Award nominated Carey Mulligan) away from her Oxford track and into his thrall, and the wide-eyed teenager has to use every ounce of her faculties to try to see through the charming spell he weaves.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel
The whole Chipmunk gang is back for more high-pitched crooning comedy, and this time Alvin, Simon and Theodore have to contend with The Chippettes – Brittany, Eleanor and Jeannette – and the power of true magic love.
