Has the first shoe dropped for The CW’s bubble-straddling ‘One Tree Hill‘?
Original cast member Sophia Bush, who plays Brooke on the seven-year-old sudser, has been cast as the daughter of Don Johnson and Mary Steenburgen on ‘Southern Discomfort,’ ABC’s comedy pilot about a conservative Texas patriarch whose grown kids each come back to live at home.
Bush will play Haley, a Harvard grad who is beckoned to her hometown by an old beau, says the Hollywood Reporter.
Steve Talley (’Summerland’) previously was cast as the clan’s eldest son, a slacker who blew off a bid for a professional baseball career to become a writer.
Technically, ‘Southern Discomfort’ is in second position to ‘Tree Hill,’ meaning The CW series gets dibs on Bush if it’s renewed. The youth-oriented drama’s fate, however, is very much in flux as the netlet weighs its options for the fall.
‘Tree Hill’s biggest competition for a slot on the schedule may come from the comparatively affordable newcomer ‘Life Unexpected,’ which has its champions at The CW and with this Monday’s season finale enjoyed a decent bump in its otherwise “OK” ratings.
The CW, like the other major networks, is scheduled to unveil its plan for the 2010-11 TV season at the mid-May upfront presentations.
