Comcast On Demand today premieres two Academy Award nominated films for your viewing pleasure. First, there’s the tour-de-force performance from Jeff Bridges as the renegade rabble-rouser Bad Blake in Crazy Heart, and then there’s the underrated Peter Jackson story of coming to terms with grief and loss, The Lovely Bones. Take a closer look at both films below.
Jeff Bridges scored the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as a hard-living country music rebel named Bad Blake, whose songs have been taken by his former protege (Colin Farrell) and made him rich and famous while he plays bowling alleys and dive bars. When he forges an odd relationship with a small-town journalist and single mother (Maggie Gyllenhaal), he comes face to face with the man truly responsible for his fading fortunes – himself.
The Lovely Bones
Peter Jackson returns with a sad and moving tale that nonetheless may offer some consolation to families visited by tragedy. Saoirse Ronan stars as 14-year-old Susie Salmon, an ordinary girl in 1973 suburbia who falls victim to a serial murderer (Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci), which puts her spirit into the beautifully rendered In-Between – not alive, but not moving on, either, as she has to wrestle with her desire for revenge against her killer and the need for her family (Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Rose McIver) to heal from their grief.
