Just say nope to dope. Such is Betty White‘s mantra as she waits to see what the ‘Saturday Night Live‘ writers have planned for when she hosts on May 8.

“I won’t do any dope jokes,” White told Fancast when asked if there is any sort of ‘SNL’ sketch she’d turn down. “I don’t think dope is a joke. So that is something I would resist doing.”

Any other form of humor, she says, is fair game.

White’s stance on pot jokes is in keeping with a recent rumor that said she had nixed an ‘SNL’ sketch that would revisit TV’s ‘Golden Girls’ as octogenarian stoners.

White repeatedly said in a Wednesday press conference call that she has not gotten wind of a single sketch ‘SNL’ has planned for her. But with her hosting debut still more than a week away, that’s in line with the NBC show’s typically topical, last-minute style.

“I’m getting eager to see what they have in mind,” she shared. “And I’ll do the best I can with the tools I’ve got.”

Aside from not knowing what material she’ll be handed, White says only two things have her nervous about seizing ‘SNL’s reigns.

One is the prospect of working off of cue cards, since traditionally she memorizes her lines or ad-libs. “I hope the print is big enough. If it isn’t, I’ll have to wear my glasses.”

The other thing that gives her pause is lending her California sensibility to a show that is so rooted in New York.

“I want to make it a fun adventure, but between us,” she admitted, “I’m scared to death!”
