Facebook is on another power trip. Just days after seeing an organized bid to book Betty White as ‘Saturday Night Live’ host come to fruition, a new fan page on the social networking site is beseeching ABC to “Let Cam & Mitchell Kiss on Modern Family.”

Barely 36 hours after launching, the effort has amassed more than 2,400 fans, including ‘Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

“I will sign it if you do too!” Mitchell’s portrayer said on Twitter as he retweeted an invitation to join the campaign.

Spurring the effort is a recent ‘Modern Family’ episode that showed Phil and Claire kissing after enduring an airport ordeal, while Cameron (played by Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell merely hugged.

Underscoring the conspicuousness of it all is ABC’s excellent track record in its representation of LGBT characters (see ‘Brothers & Sisters’ Kevin and Scotty and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s Callie and Arizona, to name two strong examples).

So why is ‘Modern Family’ steering Cam and Mitchell clear of an on-air buss stop?

“I know there have been people that have said we are not physically intimate enough with each other,” Stonestreet said in March at a PaleyFest event tributing the hit freshman comedy. “Right now, in the beginning stages of the show, [the producers] have an arc to the show that is hopefully a long, big, building arc.”

Fans though say enough is enough. “These guys really need to kiss,” says one member of the Facebook page. “They will not be totally believable as a ‘real couple’ until they do.”

A spokesperson for ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ had no comment on the Facebook campaign and its grievance.
