Fox announced Monday that when ‘So You Think You Can Dance‘ returns this summer, the judges’ table is going to look a little different.
Adam Shankman and Mia Michaels are returning as full-time, permanent judges for Season 7. The two choreographers will sit alongside executive producer and panel judge Nigel Lythgoe to critique the contestants–while kooky judge Mary Murphy has been downgraded in status.
But don’t SCREAM for joy just yet, ‘Dance’ lovers. ‘SYTYCD’ insiders tell Fancast that Murphy is still very much a part of the show, she will just appear in a different capacity.
“Mary is wacky, but everyone loves her. Shifting the judges will give the show a spicy new twist. It was time for a change. Mary will still be involved in the show throughout the season. She will give dancing tips, work on choreography and be around in general. It isn’t ‘SYTYCD,’ if Mary’s not there! She is a great character and a big part of what makes the show special.”
Of the changes, Lythgoe says in a statement, “I am extremely happy that Mia and Adam have returned and agreed to be resident judges. Mia’s outspoken approach combined with Adam’s passion will definitely add a fresh new chemistry to the panel.”
The lovely Cat Deeley stays in place as host of the popular dance show and our source tells Fancast that behind the scenes, everyone is friendly – no catfights here!
“People are respectful on-set and very nice – there aren’t diva attitude problems. Everybody gets along and is happy to have such a great job.”
Season 7 of ‘SYTYCD’ premieres on Thursday, May 27th, on Fox.
