As more or less presumed, ‘Smallville’s 10th season will be its last.

Not 36 hours before The CW planned to announce the sad swan song at its annual upfront presentation, series lead/co-executive producer Tom Welling revealed the news to HollywoodLife.com, saying, “Season 10 of ‘Smallville’ will be the last season.”

Executive producer Brian Peterson told Fancast last month that the decision to wrap up Clark Kent’s small-screen saga is one that the show, Warner Bros. TV and The CW would “all make together.”

“If that is the case [with Season 10], I think I would definitely be a proponent of [announcing it as such],” he added.

Despite dipping in ratings with its move this past season to Fridays, ‘Smallville’ merited an early renewal back in March – specifically with the promise of a “momentous 10th season.”
