UPDATE: Former child star Gary Coleman has died at age 42, a publicist confirmed Friday.

The ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ actor died of a brain hemorrhage at a Provo, Utah hospital Friday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Coleman suffered the trauma after hitting his head during a fall at his Utah home Wednesday and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He was transferred to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center later that night.

Early Friday morning, a spokesperson revealed Coleman’s condition had taken a turn for the worse, as he slipped into a coma and was placed on life support: “We are saddened to announce that since mid-afternoon, Mountain Time, on May 27, 2010, Mr. Coleman has been unconscious and on life support,” Coleman’s manager John Alcantar said in a statement to E! News.

The 4 foot, 8 inch actor was hospitalized in January after suffering a seizure; he had a second seizure in late February while on the set of ‘The Insider.’ Coleman had health issues throughout his life. He underwent two kidney transplants, one in 1973 and one in 1984, as the result of a congenital kidney disease, the condition which halted his growth, and required daily dialysis.

Coleman, 42, is survived by his wife of three years, Shannon Price, who was by her husband’s side as he was taken off life support and died at approximately 12:05 p.m. on Friday, reports TMZ.

“I can confirm Mr. Coleman is a patient here at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center,” hospital spokeswoman Janet Frank told PEOPLE. “He’s listed in critical condition. He was admitted Wednesday. We are not confirming what department he’s in or any further details.”

Coleman’s brother-in-law reportedly told the Web site TMZ that Coleman suffered a head injury after a fall at his home in Utah, where he has lived with his wife Shannon since 2005.

“We’re just getting bits and pieces right now, so there’s really nothing to report,” Coleman’s manager told E! News. “If there’s anything to announce, we’ll let you know.”

An attorney for Coleman said the family did not wish to release any details at this time. “Anything they could say would be premature because they don’t know the full extent of his condition right now,” Randy Kester told The Associated Press.

Coleman’s wife Shannon Price, whom he’s been married to since 2007, released a statement to KUTV-TV saying Coleman was suffering from “a serious medical problem” and asked for prayers: “We hope those prayers are answered and that Gary will be able to recover and return home soon.”
