‘Old Christine’ failed to find a new home at ABC, so Warner Bros. TV has stopped shopping the sitcom around.
‘The New Adventures of Old Christine,’ starring Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, found itself without a date when CBS unveiled its 2010-11 schedule. That immediately spurred talk that ABC might pick up the comedy, seeing as it had eyed it almost a year ago when CBS was on the fence.
These days however ABC is not as needful of a sitcom, due to the success of freshman laffers ‘The Middle,’ ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Cougar Town.’ What’s more, the upcoming addition to ABC’s Wednesday comedy block, JoAnna Garcia and Jennifer Finnigan’s ‘Better Together,’ looks strong out of the gate.
ABC also considered “rescuing” CBS’ ‘Ghost Whisperer,’ but ultimately didn’t pull the trigger there either. With ‘Old Christine,’ the stumbling block reportedly was the high licensing fees associated with the established sitcom.
Remember happier times for ‘Christine,’ such as when she mistook a real cop for a male stripper:
