‘FlashForward’ Fans Stage Mass Blackout Across the Country

There is nothing like the love, er, obsession, of a diehard TV fanatic.

When ABC recently canceled the mystery drama ‘FlashForward,’ fans were outraged. Now they’re uniting to send a message to ABC executives in the hopes of possibly changing the fate of the show.

On June 10, passionate fans plan to stage a mass blackout in front of ABC network offices and ABC affiliate stations in major cities across the country, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Atlanta.

Just like the premise of the show, people will pretend to be passed out for two minutes and 17 seconds in front of ABC offices. Genius!

The major hook of ‘FlashForward,’ which stars Dominic Monaghan, Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, and Sonya Walger, was a mysterious global event in which people blacked out for two minutes and 17 seconds on October 6, 2009. While the characters were unconscious during the blackout, people would see what their life would be like several months in the future on April 29, 2010, i.e., a ‘flash forward.’ They then tried to unravel the mystery and see if they could fulfill–or avoid–their fates.

But that’s not all ‘Flash’ fans are doing to express their love of the show, which debuted in September 2009 and was canceled in May. They are also sending 20,000 friendship bracelets, calendars with the date 4/29 circled, and letters of support to Steve McPherson, chairman of ABC Entertainment. Nice touch!


‘Save our Show’ campaigns are not new; ‘Chuck’ fans headed to Subway to prove their love for the geeky spy guy, and ‘Jericho’ fans actually succeeded in saving their show (at least temporarily) by sending tons of peanuts to CBS executives.
