In Theaters: ‘The A-Team’ vs. ‘The Karate Kid’ in 80s Remake Battle

Here’s what’s opening in theaters nationwide this weekend. The big-ticket boffo blast is The A-Team, a spare-no-explosions action fest that’s sure to be an ongoing franchise of fun, but if you have young kids to keep busy, perhaps a check in with the next The Karate Kid is in order (and no, that doesn’t mean Hilary Swank, The Next Karate Kid). If you’re in a big city, you might have a chance to forego the remakes of 1980s classics and dig into some smaller dramas – a historical interest piece straightforwardly entitled Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, or a story of harsh family circumstances deep in the Ozarks in Winter’s Bone. Take a closer look at all of these films below.

“Hannibal” Smith (Liam Neeson), Templeton “Faceman” Peck (Bradley Cooper), “Howling Mad” Murdock (Sharlto Copley) and Bosco “B.A.” Baracus (Quinton “Rampage” Jackson) are a crack commando unit sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escape from a maximum security stockade in an effort to clear their names from the Blackwater-style military-for-hire criminals who framed them, but Jessica Biel is the soldier tasked with bringing in this alpha unit, or A-Team, that specializes in the ridiculous. This revamp of the phenomenal 80s TV series that saved NBC from ruin is an all-out action extravaganza that takes everything that was cool about the concept and cranks it up to brand new levels of crazy badass fun.

Henson) brings him to China. Fortunately for him, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) is there to train him to fight back against the kids troubling him.
