‘ER’ Alum Maura Tierney Joins ABC’s New Legal Drama

Maura Tierney will play the female lead in ‘The Whole Truth,’ ABC’s new legal drama premiering this fall.

Tierney replaces Joely Richardson, who filled the role of New York City DA’s office honcho Kathryn Peale in the original pilot but opted to leave the series to spend more time with her family. In the past 15 months, Richardson suffered the loss of both her sister, Natasha, and aunt, Lynn Redgrave.

Tierney’s last full-time prime-time gig was as ‘Parenthood’s Sarah, but she bowed out after filming the pilot so as to have breast cancer surgery.

In addition to ‘The Whole Truth’ role, the ‘ER’ alumna will also resurface on FX’s ‘Rescue Me‘ the season after next, airing sometime in 2011.

‘The Whole Truth’ presents both sides of a legal case as it makes its way through the justice system. ‘Numb3rs’ alum Rob Morrow stars as criminal defense attorney Jimmy Brogan while other cast members include Eamonn Walker (‘Oz’), Sean Wing (‘Beautiful People’), Anthony Ruivivar (‘Third Watch’) and Christine Adams (‘Pushing Daisies’).

The series will air Wednesdays at 10/9c, leading out of ABC’s two-hour comedy block.
