With Larry King on his way out of CNN, there have been plenty of rumors floating around television circles, all speculating on the possible heir to King’s throne, but the latest suitor, Piers Morgan, seems the most surprising.
Morgan, the notorious ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge and former ‘Celebrity Apprentice‘ contestant, is reportedly “on the verge” of replacing King later this year with a four-year £5.5 million contract, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The British publication claims that CNN executives are smitten with Morgan’s talk show experience, while American viewers are most likely aware of the snarky personality from ‘America’s Got Talent.’
A source told the Telegraph, “Piers is utterly thrilled by the prospect of the deal and knows that taking over the Larry King show means that something will have to give,” a reference to the likelihood that Morgan will ditch ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘ to take over King’s talk show, ‘Larry King Live.’
CNN wasn’t revealing anything about a possible successor to King, 76, as the network told the Los Angeles Times, “There is no shortage of people who would love to succeed Larry King if and when he moves on, but rumors that we are close to signing a deal for a Larry King replacement are untrue.”
What do you think of this latest name dropped as Larry King’s successor? Is it time for Larry King to retire? Who would you like to see get the gig?
