Kathy Griffin has joked about her long-running ban from ‘The View’, but the outrageous comedian got a free pass to appear on the chatfest this week–which may have been immediately revoked.
Griffin, who makes fun of celebrities for a living, got a chilly reception from co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who’s clearly not amused by the comedian’s sense of humor.
While promoting the new season of ‘Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List‘ on Tuesday’s show, Griffin faced an old-fashioned grilling from the ladies.
Sherri Shepherd asked Griffin if she ever worried about hurting people’s feelings and Griffin replied, “If it’s funny, it’s funny. Look, they don’t always work … but I go for it no matter what.”
Hasselbeck took it a step further, calling some of the ‘D-Lister’s zingers “not so funny.”
“You said things about people here that are a) untrue and b) not so funny. So, do you ever feel weird, like, then coming here and sitting here and promoting things?” a huffy Hasselbeck asked.
“Actually,” Griffin said, “this moment is what I live for … so bring it!”
“Sadly, I’m debating in my head whether to feed your curious fire there,” Elisabeth said after rolling her eyes, “but it’s cool, we’re cool.”
“I’m cool, you’re cool,” Griffin reiterated, adding, “I mean this is actually how I write my act.”
“It’s all for a joke. It’s all cool,” they said talking over each other.
Somehow, it seems like they might not be so ‘cool’ … but it sure made for a great moment of TV.
Was Elisabeth right to be offended at being a Kathy Griffin punchline? Was Elisabeth’s behavior toward the show’s guest unprofessional? Is Kathy Griffin funny or does her schtick cross the line?
