Former pop starlet Robin Sparkles will shine again as part of an all-oot variety show, ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ star Cobie Smulders tells TVGuide.com.

Word of a third appearance by Robin Scherbotsky’s very Canadian alter ego was triggered late last season by an on-screen reference to this new piece of her colorful past. That led Smulders to ask the CBS sitcom’s producers if they were in fact plotting a variety show-within-a-show. “‘We are,'” Smulders says she was told. “‘Don’t you worry!'”

“I don’t know when,” Smulders admits, “but it looks like it’s finally coming.”

‘How I Met Your Mother’ Producer Talks Robin-Barney Romance

‘HIMYM’ fans have twice thus far been dazzled by Robin Sparkles. The first time came when Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) unearthed a video of her very hummable, acid-washed “Let’s Go To The Mall” video. Get the song stuck in your head here:

A later episode gave us “Sandcastles In The Sand,” a cliche-ridden ballad video costarring ‘Dawson’s Creek’s James Van Der Beek and Alan Thicke.

Thicke resurfaced this past season in a strange little cameo, where he alluded to Robin’s old variety show. That throwaway line is what got people speculating about ever laying witness to footage from Ms. Sparkles’ surely riotous TV lark.

Smulders says that Sparkles episodes are “big undertakings” necessitating songwriting, choreography and the taping of a video- or show-within-a-show. Even so, she says the diversions are “so much fun…. Those are my favorite episodes when we get to change it up and just go, “‘Let’s sing a song about suits today!'”
