Crystal Bowersox could have walked away several weeks ago the winner of ‘American Idol’ season 10. But the vote was a toss-up, and Lee DeWyze was crowned the victor May 26. But, there are clearly good vibes between DeWyze and Bowersox. There has to be. The two finalists will share a lot of time together over the next few months, hitting 51 cities on the ‘American Idol Live!’ North American tour, which starts July 1 in Detroit and ends Sept. 11 in Cleveland, with the other final seven ‘Idol’ singers. The newly single mom Bowersox, 24, talked with Fancast Thursday in L.A., on the eve of ‘American Idol Livc!’ tour, about life since the show ended, leaving her son Tony behind, while on the road — and her insulin rock-n-roll connection to Bret Michaels. Get in touch with Crystal, Bret.

How has every day been going since the show ended in May?
I’ve been getting used to it. Our schedule has been hectic, it’s been busy. But I like it, I like to work a lot. As far as what has changed, I was playing shows before ‘Idol’ on a smaller scale. Now, it’s huge. I enjoy everything I do. So it’s not work at all. I wake up and get my son ready for the day. Then, I am on my way to work. But it’s not even work. I get to do really cool stuff and hang out with cool people, making music. It’s a dream come true.

How is your new music going?
I have had a couple co-writing sessions, and I found them a little bit difficult for me. Usually I write alone, I write in solitude. But I’m getting used to it, and it’s nice to see with coming of the sessions. I hope my album is mostly the original songs pre-‘Idol.’ I’m really looking forward to that.

How can you break away for creativity?
We are constantly surrounded by people, all the time. I’ve found it’s hard to find a minute to myself. Not only that, because I’m a mother, as well. I get some mommy time, and a minute to breathe, think, and I’m sure I can come up with a lot of new stuff.

Are you bringing your son Tony on the tour?
No, unfortunately the kids can’t come. For Mike Lynche and Andrew Garcia too. We are all going to be going through that together, being away from the kids. No matter where he is or who he’s with, he is loved. He is healthy and happy, and she will see mommy when he gets home.

What do you have to bring on the tour with you?
Definitely flip flops, summertime you have to have some air on your feet. Insulin, I need my insulin to live. I need my guitar to live as well, it is important. And nag champa incense. I love nag champa.

Do you know Bret Michaels? Do you think he would be good on ‘Idol’?
I have actually never met him. I’ve been trying to reach out to Bret. So, Bret, if you can hear me, or read this, get a hold of me. Because he has attitude. He’s got that fire and spunk, and I think he would do a good job. Not only that, but he is type one diabetic, and he could bring that into the spotlight as well. I think that Bret would make a good replacement for Simon.

You and Bret would make a good duo, musically.
Definitely. Bret and I have some things in common. Musicians. Diabetics. Wild and crazy people, or something like that. I would definitely like to work with him.

What are you going to do after the tour?
I would like to take a couple weeks off, but no more than that. As soon as the tour is over, hopefully the album will be done by then. The release and then do the promotion for that. Then tour next summer, and next summer my kid is coming with me. It will be my career then. I will finally be on my own. It will be the bird leaving the nest.
