You wouldn’t expect it to work, but it turns out that The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Disney’s live-action big-budget adventure adaptation of the beloved Mickey Mouse sequence in Fantasia, is actually quite a fun and enjoyable family flick! Nicolas Cage stars as Balthazar, an enigmatic mage charged by Merlin himself to seek out the “prime Merlinian,” aka the only wizard who will be able to destroy the threat of the evil witch Morgana Le Fay. That chosen one turns out to be the unlikely dork David (Jay Baruchel), but Balthazar has his work cut out for him, since David’s first encounter with magic as a child becomes a very traumatic experience that he hasn’t fully recovered from by the time he reaches young adulthood.

See the beinnings of that first encounter in this exclusive clip from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
