UPDATE: New Haven traffic reporter and host of ‘Connecticut Style’ Desiree Fontaine, who was arrested last week for shoplifting, told authorities she was working on a freelance story “on the side” at the time of her arrest. The 33-year-old reporter for ABC affiliate WTNH is accused of stealing over $100 worth of merchandise from a Milford mall and was charged with misdemeanor larceny. Fontaine, who’s due in court July 7, is currently on leave from the station, according to The Huffington Post.

MILFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut television reporter has been accused of shoplifting more than $100 worth of merchandise from a department store.

Police say 33-year-old Desiree Fontaine was arrested Saturday after they received a complaint that she took $104.98 worth of items from a Sears store in Milford without paying for them. Police did not provide further details.
Fontaine is the morning news traffic reporter for WTNH in New Haven and also hosts the station’s ‘Connecticut Style’ program.

Police say she’s been released after promising to appear in court July 7 on a charge of sixth-degree larceny.

Police don’t know if Fontaine has an attorney and a home telephone number couldn’t be found for her Sunday. WTNH News Director Kirk Varner says the station “doesn’t comment on personnel matters.”
