Marc Webb, director of 500 Days of Summer, is handling the reboot of the Spider-Man movie franchise, setting it in high school once again now that Tobey Maguire, Sam Raimi and the gang we’ve seen for three movies has moved on. Now, the guy who is about to have the weight of the webs on his back has been announced – a British-American actor by the name of Andrew Garfield.
Garfield, 27, may not be someone you’ve heard of, but he has worked with a great deal of A-list directorial talent, including Terry Gilliam in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and David Fincher for his upcoming Facebook movie The Social Network.
“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” Webb said. “He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
“In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer,” said veteran Marvel producer Avi Arad. “We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”
