You’ve Got B.O.: ‘Twilight’ Sets An Odd Set of Records

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, as expected by everyone, conquered the box office this weekend, setting records in the process. One was the biggest midnight opening of all time at over $30 million, and another was the biggest Wednesday opening ever at $68.5 million. That said, it also set the record for the steepest Wednesday to Thursday drop of all time as well, falling 65% to $24.2 million, which was still big enough for second place on the list of all-time non-opening Thursday grossers behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The approximate five day total for Eclipse is a hefty $162.7 million. M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender also put in a good showing despite absolutely brutal reviews with a $40.6 million pull.

Here are the estimates for July 2-4.

1. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – $69 million
2. The Last Airbender – $40.6m
3. Toy Story 3 – $30.1m
4. Grown Ups – $18.5m
5. Knight and Day – $10.2m
6. The Karate Kid – $8m
7. The A-Team – $3m
8. Get Him to the Greek – $1.1m
9. Shrek Forever After – $799K
10. Cyrus – $770K
