UPDATE: Bob Barker didn’t mean to bark an insult about his ‘Price Is Right’ successor Drew Carey. The retired game show host was asked earlier this week for his thoughts on the show, and he was quoted as saying Carey wasn’t as “exciting” as he was.

Barker clarified his remarks in a statement to EW:

“I would not criticize Drew Carey. I would not criticize this show. I would not criticize CBS. I would not criticize FremantleMedia (which produces the show for the network) because I have a sizable royalty that I am paid every year this show is on, and it’s going on for years. I would be an absolute fool. I hope this show stays on for years. As for Drew, he’s been charming and complimentary, and he had me on the show to plug my book Priceless Memories. He devoted half of the show to me! He’s a charming man, and kind and gracious. To think that I would say anything derogatory about him is idiocy.”

Current ‘Price Is Right‘ ringleader Drew Carey isn’t very exciting, if you ask the show’s former host Bob Barker (and most viewers).

The legendary game show host was approached by a TMZ cameraman on Monday and asked for his thoughts on the show these days.

“Well, he does the show differently than I did,” Barker replied. “I tried to make the show really exciting and, uh, he doesn’t do that. He just plays the game.”

Big Changes Coming to ‘The Price Is Right’

Barker, 86, retired in 2007 after hosting the popular game show for 35 years. Drew Carey’s performance as the new host hasn’t been on the money, according to fans, and producers have been criticized recently for adding “variety” show elements to the program.
