Apparently two ‘American Idol‘ judges are being sent home this week.
Not 12 hours after Fox announced that Ellen DeGeneres won’t be returning to the judges’ table for Season 10, there is talk that it’s “two and out” for Kara DioGuardi, who joined the show just last year.
And as Kara is not-so-politely directed to “walk this way,” the rumor is that Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler will claim her spot.
According to TMZ, one site reporting on Kara’s supposed ouster, Fox will announce at Monday’s Television Critics Association press tour that ‘Idol’ is returning to a three-judge format. It is widely believed that Fox will also confirm that Nigel Lythgoe (‘So You Think You Can Dance’) is returning to the show as executive producer.
At latest tally, that trio of panelists will be Jennifer Lopez (according to multiple outlets), Steven Tyler and mild-mannered mainstay Randy Jackson (because apparently you don’t mess with the dawg).
Presumably Ryan Seacrest is sticking around to host the “revamped” ‘Idol,’ if only because a year ago he inked a megabucks/multi-year deal to continue as emcee.
One judges’ chair was made available by the planned exit of Simon Cowell, who is moving on to produce a U.S. adaptation of ‘The X Factor.’ DeGeneres, meanwhile, asked to be let out of her contract with the show, feeling overburdened professionally and uncomfortable personally as a critic of wannabe warblers.
But by some accounts, including one cited by Deadline.com, Ellen’s reps told Fox, “She’s not happy. It’s not been fun” – partly due to some frustrations she suffered with during her first-season overlap with divo Simon Cowell.
How is the “new” ‘Idol’ shaping up for you? Me, I’m kinda digging the idea of a J.Lo-“Lips” Tyler-Randy panel. Share your opinion in Comments, dawg.
