Jeff Goldblum plans to leave ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ “due to the uncertainty” surrounding the USA Network series’ future, reps for the actor tell Variety.
Goldblum’s peeps maintain that his decision is not a public negotiating ploy. It is also possible that he may reconsider and reverse his decision, Variety allows.
Goldblum joined ‘Criminal Intent’ as Detective Zach Nichols in Season 8, and this past cycle was joined by Saffron Burrows and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (filling the voids left by Kathryn Erbe, Vincent D’Onofrio and Eric Bogosian).
Goldblum’s split from the show is said to be amicable. Indeed, when Fancast spoke with him this spring about the rejiggered ‘Law & Order: CI,’ he hailed the writers as “so brilliant” and said the guest casting (including F. Murray Abraham as his TV dad) drew “the cream of the crop.”
Nonetheless, the show suffered a ratings drop in Season 9, and has yet to be renewed for No. 10.
Reps for USA Network and Dick Wolf Films did not immediately respond to Fancast’s request for comment.
