In the half-hour comedy, Hart plays a former bad girl who now is a local politician. As the series starts, Mel is “thrown into a situation where she has to raise her sister’s two kids,” Hart explains in the video below.
Enter Joey, a stock trader sidelined by the scandal which put Mel’s sis behind bars and forced her bro-in-law to go on the lam. Happening upon the chaotic household which Mel must now manage – and desperate for room and board – “I say, ‘Look, I think you need some help here,'” Lawrence shares. Considering Mel’s kin cost him his career, home and wife, “It’s the least you can do,” Joey argues.
And there you have a “manny” situation reminiscent of, yes, ‘Who’s The Boss,’ only not quite as wholesome, Hart and Lawrence are quick to note.
