Jennifer Aniston is your new ‘American Idol’ judge! Oops, I mixed up oft-reported stories.
Specifically, Aniston will play Jules’ shrink, Bonnie – a “kind of a get-too-involved-in-her-life-type of therapist,” series boss Bill Lawrence tells EW.com.
Lawrence says that playing the Aniston card in the Season 2 opener is designed to lure in “as many people as I can get to see what the show kind of became last year. It went from a typical TV show trying to find itself to something that I’m really proud of and like and think is really funny.”
This marks the first time the ‘Friends’ have worked together since 2007, when Aniston guested on ‘Dirt,’ the FX series that starred Cox as a tabloid magazine editrix.
Previously on ‘Cougar Town,’ fellow ‘Friends’ alum Lisa Kudrow guested as Jules’ snarky dermatologist. The coming TV season also marks the arrival of new shows for Matthew Perry (ABC’s midseason comedy ‘Mr. Sunshine’) and Matt LeBlanc (Showtime’s ‘Episodes’).
Aniston’s latest big-screen rom-com, ‘The Switch,’ opened in a disappointing seventh place this weekend, earning barely $8 million.
