Though Dick Clark famously tried (and failed) to serve up a male-skewing daytime talker (dubbed ‘The Other Half‘) back in 2001, the creators of ABC’s ‘The View‘ are now taking their own crack at it.

Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie are rumored to be developing a Los Angeles-based spin-off of ‘The View’ that will offer a greater male perspective on the “hot topics” of the day.

Per the New York Daily News, the wish list of cohosts for the off-shoot features faces who have been received well in past ‘View’ appearances. Topping that list is former ‘Today’ host Bryant Gumbel, who would serve as the panel’s moderator.

Also being eyed is Alec Mapa, a Fillipino comedian whose credits include ‘Ugly Betty’ (where he played Suzuki St. Pierre) and a ‘View’ guest-hosting turn.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck: There Are ‘So Many’ Misperceptions About Me

This “new” ‘View’s panel won’t be all men, however. Representing the distaff set could be former BET news anchor Jacque Reid and Fox News alum E.D. Hill, who presumably would make like Hasselbeck.

Hill, the News notes, made headlines in 2008 for calling a fist bump ‘tween Barack Obama and wife Michelle a “terrorist fist jab.”

An ABC spokesperson declined to comment on the rumored spin-off.

CBS’ New Daytime ‘Talk’ Show: 5 Things To Know

Already en route to the daytime schedule is a “Mommy-centric” ‘View’ called ‘The Talk.’ That premieres in the fall, and will feature Julie Chen (‘Early Show’), Sara Gilbert (‘Roseanne’), Leah Remini (‘King Of Queens’), Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson-Peete and Marissa Jaret Winokur (Broadway’s ‘Hairspray’).

All of which begs the question: Does daytime TV need even more jibber-jabber?
