The Good Wife‘s Matt Czuchry has an important message for fans of his work on CBS’ Emmy-nominated freshman drama.

Although Cary lost the “bake-off” and got sent packing by Stern, Lockhart & Gardner, he will emerge from the ashes as an even greater force for Alicia to reckon with when Season 2 unspools starting September 28.

When apprised that many Fancast readers have expressed concern about his screen time moving forward, Czuchry said, “I’m happy to reassure them by saying that being on the other side opens up a whole new storyline. You’re going to see Cary more ambitious, and more cutthroat.”

In fact, Cary – now repping the States Attorney’s office – squares off against his former bosses, and Alicia specifically, right away in the Season 2 premiere.

“Oh yeah, head-to-head against the old firm – that’s the way its gotta be!” Czuchry says with a chuckle. “It’s going to be fun.”

Cary’s not all bullhorns and bravado, however. Even as he feels empowered to get back at his old bosses, “He’s also a little bit more vulnerable, because he’s been humbled,” Czuchry notes. “He got his ass fired.”

Hmm, does Cary have any special lady friend helping him lick those wounds of legal warfare? “No, he has no love interest right now,” Czuchry says, “so we need to change that!”
