Melissa & Joey‘ are going dancing.  The September 28th episode of the retro-cool sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence will pay homage to Lawrence and Hart’s experiences as contestants on ‘Dancing With The Stars.’

The show’s Mark Ballas, who won the Disco Ball twice, with Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson, will guest star, according to a network rep.  ABC Family is keeping the details under wraps for now, but Lawrence teased: “We shot this big ‘Dancing With The Stars’ crossover episode.  We did it in a very edgy, on its head way.  It’s not what you’d think the show would be about. It’s something where people will go, ‘Oh, it’s a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ episode.  Of course.’ But then they’re going to watch it and go, ‘Oh my God.  That’s totally not what I thought it was.’  That was our plan.”

Lawrence revealed that the show believes in finding guest stars that serve the scripts, not just stunt casting. “We’re always looking for people to come on if it makes sense, not if it takes you out of the show.  We’ve got Lucy DeVito, whose Danny DeVito’s daughter.  She’s been fantastic and is hopefully going to do several more episodes with us.  We’re probably going to have [Lawrence’s brothers and former ‘Brotherly Love’ co-stars] Matthew and Andrew on the show at some point, not as my brothers, but in roles that are very cool and very funny. You’re going to meet my ex-wife at some point.  We’re throwing around a few great names for that, too. It will be somebody that you know.”

Will city councilperson Melissa be competing in a local version of ‘Dancing With the Stars’?  Will broke Joey be busking for dollars?  Will the two have to attend a debutante ball together? Stay tuned.
