Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: J.J. Abrams is shepherding a top-secret new TV series that involves a history-rich island and a multitude of mysteries.

But in contrast to the idyllic-slash-hellacious tropical destination of ‘Lost,’ which Abrams created, this time around his target is Alcatraz, the remote, now-defunct prison near San Francisco. And Fox is on board for the sure-to-be wild ride.

J.J. Abrams Hopeful That ‘Lost’ Fans Will Turn To ‘Fringe’

The official logline, per the Hollywood Reporter, describes it as “a show about mysteries, secrets and the most infamous prison of all time: Alcatraz.”

Alrighty then! Though details are obviously/purposely few, Fox is rightfully curious enough to order a pilot for the series, which Abrams will exec-produce alongside ‘Lost’ EPs Elizabeth Sarnoff and Bryan Burk. Abrams’ Bad Robot shingle will produce the pilot with Warner Bros. TV.

‘Wicked’ Movie Buzz: J.J. Abrams! Lea Michele! Amanda Seyfried?

If ultimately greenlit by Fox (and really, in what alternate universe is it not?), the Alcatraz series would join Abrams’ ‘Fringe‘ on the network’s schedule. He’s also an EP on NBC’s ‘Undercovers,’ premiering Wednesday, September 22.
