Katy Perry has a standing invitation from Elmo himself to return to ‘Sesame Street‘ – although probably with a different wardrobe choice.
The famous red muppet appeared on ‘Good Morning America‘ Friday with Grover and actual human beings Carol-Lynn Parente, the PBS children’s show executive producer, and ABC morning host George Stephanopoulos, to address the hullabaloo about Perry’s low-cut wardrobe.
Parente handled the controversy; Elmo steered clear of the cleavage.
“Elmo loves Miss Katy, so we’ll have another play date,” said the muppet (from behind a couch).
Perry’s duet of a version of her hit “Hot ‘n’ Cold” with Elmo was pulled from the show’s upcoming premiere after the video on YouTube provoked some vehement responses.
“We were surprised not only at the amount of feedback, but how fast it came in,” Parente said. “We would never produce anything that we thought was inappropriate.”
There are apparently no hard feelings from the pop star, who made light of the situation on Twitter: “Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!”
Perry’s fiancé Russell Brand, defended her assets, tweeting: “Today’s Sesame Street will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D.”
On ‘GMA,’ Grover took his shot as well, asking Stephanopoulos what he thought of his knight costume. “How do you like my new outfit? It’s not too revealing is it?”
