Jennifer Love Hewitt confessed to not being sure if she was up to the challenge of playing a rape victim in tonight’s season premiere of ‘Law & Order: SVU.’
“My initial thing was: Can I pull this off? I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m quite the actress to tackle this one,” Hewett said about playing Vicki, a woman who has been stalked and raped four times by the same man since she was 16.
But ‘SVU’ star Mariska Hargitay, whose detective Olivia Benson becomes invested in Vicki’s case, had effusive praise for her love-ly guest star.
“She absolutely fulfilled our wildest dreams. As a professional, as an actor, as a compassionate, empathetic soul – I think she blew me away pretty much on every level,” Hargitay said, calling Hewitt’s scenes some of the toughest she’d seen in 12 years on the show.
“She’s one of the most professional and prepared, lovely human beings I’ve ever met,” Hargitay said.
Hewitt acknowledged the long list of high caliber guest stars, some of whom have won Emmys for their roles. “They seem to really just do beautiful work here,” she said.
‘The Ghost Whisperer‘ star enjoyed her time on the show, filming the episode titled ‘Behave,’ but said portraying the brutal subject put her “through extreme turmoil.”
Being a ‘Victim’ Takes a Toll on J. Love:
In the episode, which airs tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC, Vicki is essentially a shut-in, living in fear after her most recent attack. Benson supports her, encouraging her to help them catch her attacker. The episode also addresses the problem of the backlog in rape kit testing.
