Giving one of the most unintentionally – or intentionally – hilarious resignation statements in recent memory, ‘Today‘ personality Gene Shalit announced he is leaving the morning program after 40 years, saying “It’s enough already.”

With a fondness for zany bowties, the wild-haired, handlebar mustachioed Shalit originally joined NBC’s ‘Today’ in 1970 as a regular contributor, replacing Joe Garagiola.

Shalit’s final day will be Nov. 11. ‘Today’ will air a retrospective of his work, including film reviews and celebrity interviews, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The 78-year-old Shalit plans to “pursue other activities,” with an emphasis on radio, commercials, and publishing.

Will you miss the pun-loving Shalit?
