‘Daily Show’ Mocks McCain’s Gay Rights Hypocrisy

Once upon a time, Jon Stewart and Senator John McCain had a very amicable relationship, but ever since the 2008 presidential campaign, that no longer seems to be the case. In the past, Stewart has wondered aloud on the air what happened to that, but even more confusing has been McCain’s ever-shifting positions on issues. On last night’s ‘Daily Show,’ the crew leveled their harshest criticism yet of the Arizona senator about his double-talk about the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy.

In the wake of Cindy McCain appearing in a NOH8 ad protesting the fact that gays are not allowed to serve openly in the military, and then retracting that statement to fall in line with her husband’s take on the policy, ‘TDS’ did what they do best – dug up plenty of archived footage of McCain casting his current stance in a hypocritical light, and then spoofing that NOH8 “It Gets Better” spot with an “It Gets Worse” piece – claiming decades in the future, McCain will be the George Wallace of the gay civil rights movement.

“No wonder they have all those houses,” Stewart joked. “They need them to keep all their different beliefs in.”
