Guitar man Kevin Eubanks is headed for a late-night reunion with Jay Leno.
Eubanks, Leno’s bandleader of choice for 15 years (from 1995-2010, including the ill-fated 10 p.m. experiment ‘The Jay Leno Show’), is booked for a ‘Tonight Show’ appearance on Tuesday, November 23. It’ll be his first time on the late-night talker since he left last spring.
What’s he been up to since he and his bandmates left Jay (to be replaced by bassist Rickey Minor and his crew)? Apparently, Kevin’s been recording a new CD titled “Zen Food,” due to be released that same Tuesday. Kevin will perform a track from the CD, joined by long-time ‘Tonight Show’ back-up men Marvin “Smitty” Smith (on drums) and keyboardist Gerry Etkins.
Hopefully, Kevin will also get a chance to sit down with Jay to talk about old times, new times and maybe to clear up misconceptions about why he left such a great TV job in the first place. Some skeptics believe there was more to his exit than anyone revealed at the time, but the release of this new CD indicates Kevin probably really did leave in order to return full-time to his jazz career, which was the reason he gave back then, whether everyone chose to believe it or not.
It’ll be great to see Kevin again, won’t it?
