Times are tough for soap operas these days, we all know this. Stephen Colbert took some time to address the problem last night on ‘The Colbert Report’ and, more specifically, to have loads of fun mocking the surviving soaps’ efforts to stay on the air with the help of incredibly forced and elaborate product placement.
Colbert is no stranger to product placement himself, of course, but he excels at turning it into comedy. After showing ‘Days of Our Lives’ selling Chex Mix and Cheerios in the middle of their storylines, Colbert became the star of his own soap/commercial to hock products while squaring off against his long-lost evil fraternal twin Pavros, only to be saved by a heroic cereal box.
