The Town

The Charlestown neighborhood of Boston is renowned for churning out a high number of armed robbers, generation after generation and is on display in the new Ben Affleck directed movie ‘The Town.’ These robbers never leave their Charlestown life on their own volition, the neighborhood where there is an unwritten code to protect that lifestyle. Such robbers include friends Doug MacRay, James Coughlin, Albert ‘Gloansy’ Magloan and Desmond Elden. Doug and James in particular treat each other like family, as the Coughlins have realistically been as such to Doug since Doug’s mother ran off and Doug’s father, Stephen MacRay, was sent to prison. Space: 1999

For over 45 years, legendary British TV producer Gerry Anderson produced groundbreaking television series like no other. From the unique, genre-busting “Supermarionation” of the hip, high-octane 60s’ programs ‘Thunderbirds’ and ‘Captain Scarlet’ to the moon-based exploits of the lost-in-space Commander John Koening (Martin Landau) and Dr. Helena Russell (Barbara Bain) in ‘Space 1999,’ the visionary Anderson has long been at the forefront of creating “Must-See Cult TV.” Now, this December, A&E Home Entertainment serves up one of Anderson’s most celebrated programs in spectacular hi-def with the eagerly anticipated Season 1 on Blu-ray. The program, licensed from ITV Studios Global Entertainment, includes a seven disc set with all 24 first season episodes, digitally restored and remastered in sparkling 1080p Blu-ray and sporting newly recorded 5.1 Surround Sound mixes. Cheyenne‘ Bodie rides again in more of the straightforward cowboy adventures that made the Cheyenne series – 8 seasons and 108 episodes total – one of the most durable TV Westerns. Rugged Clint Walker plays the title role, a loner in the lawless West who brings a sense of justice to his heroics in these 20 wide-ranging, open-range episodes involving the powerful (President Grant is the target of kidnappers), the weak (an orphaned infant), rustlers, thieves, killers, connivers and Chief Sitting Bull. Lots of stars shine in this West: guest stars/co-stars include Dan Blocker, Diane Brewster, Peggie Castle, Richard Crenna, John Carradine, Angie Dickinson, James Garner and Dennis Hopper. An ongoing philosophical conversation provides a backdrop for a deadly game of cat and mouse in the comedy-drama ‘Frenemy‘ from filmmaker Gregory Dark. Mr. Jack (Matthew Modine) and Sweet Stephen (Callum Blue) are two men who spend their days wandering the streets of Los Angeles and chatting. Jack and Stephen enjoy talking about the big questions of life — love, hate, violence and mortality — but their conversations are not quite what they seem to be on the surface. Mr. Jack is actually a hired killer and Sweet Stephen is his conscience, and as they explore the City of Angels they frequently pass the bodies of women Jack has murdered. As the body count rises as Jack and Stephen ponder the imponderable, Tommy (Adam Baldwin), a police detective with a renegade streak, is on the trail of the killer.

Matt Dillon (James Arness) is in charge of Dodge City, a town in the Wild West where people often have no respect for the law in the classic series ‘Gunsmoke.’ He deals on a daily basis with the problems associated with frontier life: cattle rustling, gunfights, brawls, stand over tactics, and land fraud. Such situations call for sound judgment and brave actions, of which Marshal Dillon has plenty. Buy the Season 4, Volume 2 DVD right here.
